What Customers Say About Midland 74-250C SAME Handheld Weather Alert Radio:

If not, good luck. This radio is great if you have a t.v. The warning doesn't scroll across the screen and the light won't flash red like it says. or internet to get your alerts. If the speaker is on, it'll tell you there is a warning. Our whole state is in a blizzard warning, my light flashes green and it says there is no message. If you need a radio to stay alive, this is not the one to get.

Radio works but reception is spotty even in a metro area SAME is ok and works as programed but hard to get the unit to work as it should. Better radios out there for less and Amazon is no longer the cheapest place to get it.

June 10, 2008: The National Weather Service issues a Tornado Watch for the entire state of Vermont. VERY POOR RECEPTION. Would I reccomend it. Nope. What I would reccomend is the Midland WR-100 model. This weather radio didn't. You would think this weather radio, turned on and with fresh batteries, would go crazy and sound an alarm, or at the very least display that there has been a tornado watch issued. I had to leave it in one specific spot in my house to get reception, and if I moved it a millimeter, it would lose it's signal.

Other things I don't like about it: Difficult to set up. Difficult to get to the weather radio. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Midland WR-100B SAME Weather and All Hazards Alert Monitor with Alarm Clock

When the battery does run down, you have to re-set all the settings, except the location codes. I don't know where to get a wall power supply, but it would be nice. Like others say, battery life is short. After a while, you learn how to re-set it without the book (good. What we have found that works is to put it on alert at night when you need it to wake you, otherwise turn off the alert during the daytime. Here in the midwest, storms seems to be more numerous and stronger at night so that's when a person really needs the alerts. bad. I dunno)

You would think a weather radio would be pretty simple to use, but this one takes counterintuitive to a new level. My wife finally figured it out when, during her last pregnancy, she had to take a glucose test, which required her to sit and wait in a clinic for three hours. But even then, we still are never entirely sure we have it set to the correct county. I've built a PC recently, so its not like I'm an old man driving down the freeway with my turn signal on wondering what that ticking sound is. I gave it two stars because we have been able to get alerts from it, but its just too difficult to get to work, and there's always the uncertaintly about whether or not it is set correctly. However, this radio had me beat. First of all, while I'm not a tech genius, I am competent. The only thing she brought to work on was this weather radio, so in three hours with no distractions she got it.

The interface is not at all intuitive, and the instructions are poorly organized. I tried a few times and gave up in frustration. To seal the deal, the display has gone funny on it so the screen is barely readable now. I'm looking for its replacement now.
